Cape Cod Times Letter to the Editor: Beware Cape Wind’s Insidious New Strategy; 6/18/17
I thank those who stood up for our environment and our economy in particular our Cape Cod legislators, the Steamship Authority, the Barnstable Municipal Airport, the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and many other stakeholders for telling the federal government that we don’t want Cape Wind built and we want the company’s lease of our Nantucket Sound seabed canceled now (Opposition persists to Cape Wind plans, June 12, Page 1).
Too many of us are falling for Cape Wind’s new strategy: Move quietly to keep federal approval of the project, let the public believe the project is dead, and move forward with construction when the opposition is gone.
The statements in this article that Cape Wind officials made in court and to the federal government are crystal clear. The company continues to work toward construction of 130 massive turbines in our waters. The letters from our Cape Cod leadership are equally clear: those turbines will threaten wildlife, safe air travel, the ferries that connect the Islands to the mainland and the pristine beauty of the Cape, which is the backbone of our tourist industry.
That lease needs to be canceled and this project needs to be terminated for good.
