It's a new day for Nantucket Sound, thanks to the unwavering support of our generous donors. With Cape Wind behind us, the future is indeed bright. Since 2002, the Alliance has been fighting to protect one of the Cape and Islands' most precious natural resources - our beautiful Nantucket Sound - from industrialization.

Today, we continue to fight for permanent preservation of this natural treasure for our children and grandchildren. And we are not alone. Our supporters include environmentalists, commercial fishermen, Native American tribes, municipalities, businesses, and homeowners.

Nantucket Sound and its historic, environmental, and cultural resources are vital to the regional economy - supporting commercial fishing, tourism, recreation, marine transportation, aviation, and more. The Sound, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket form an integral part of the maritime history of this country. The adjacent land areas are home to numerous historic properties, including the National Historic Landmarks of Nantucket Island and the Kennedy Compound. Additionally, Nantucket Sound has been designated a traditional cultural property eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places because of its sacred value to the Native American people of the region.

But Nantucket Sound is still open to industrial development. While the state waters of the Sound extending three miles from shore are protected under Massachusetts law, the federal waters in the center remain vulnerable. Our mission is to prohibit development in all of the Sound, while safeguarding traditional uses like fishing and recreation. To achieve this important goal, we are pursuing legislation and a historic designation for Nantucket Sound. But we need your help to succeed. Would you please consider a tax-deductible donation to help us make a lasting difference? Your generosity today will leave a priceless legacy for generations to come.
