Letter
I join the tens of thousands of individuals and nearly 100 stakeholder organizations in urging your support of federal legislation to permanently preserve and protect Nantucket Sound. Enactment of the “Nantucket Sound National Historic Landmark Act” would recognize the Sound’s unique ecosystem and its rich cultural, tribal, and maritime history; provide significant environmental protections to improve water quality, coastal resilience, and marine habitat in Nantucket Sound; and ensure federal waters in the center of the Sound have the same protections as state waters that extend three miles from our shores. This bill would provide for appropriately sited renewable energy projects and promote our traditional fishing industry, our tourism-based businesses, and our blue economy which is vital to the future of the Cape and Islands. I fully support protection for Nantucket Sound and urge you to support designation of the Sound as a National Historic Landmark. Thank you in advance for your help with enactment of federal legislation to preserve this national treasure in perpetuity for our future generations.
Sincerely,
